How Does This Low-Budget Ailment-Stacking Tempest Flurry Invoker Build Perform In POE 2?
Here we are, Exiles, with a powerful build that not only works well in T14 maps but also requires a fairly low budget in Path Of Exile 2. You only need to spend less than 3 Divine Orbs to give it a try. It is Ailment-Stacking Tempest Flurry Invoker build!
Build Basics
This fast-hitting machine can quickly crush entire groups of monsters in a short period of time, while defeating most bosses in seconds! We achieve this with 4 ailments, namely Chill, Freeze, Shock, and Ignite. Each of these ailments stacks individually with Tempest Bell, allowing us to deal a large amount of elemental damage to a single target.
Defensively, this build can easily run T14 and higher maps without dying unless you enter multiple death effects at the same time. With the help of Wind Dancer and Acrobatics, we are able to dodge attacks and spell strikes at a reasonable rate. Next, we will explain how to further expand the defense range. But most importantly, you need to know how this works first.
How Do You Get Power Charges?
This build relies heavily on Power Charges to activate Charged Staff, a skill that can destroy anything in your path. In my opinion, there isn’t even an Invoker Monk build without Charged Staff. It’s by far the best skill in Monk class and absolutely fun to play with.
And the way we get Power Charges is by generating Frenzy Charges through Combat Frenzy skill. Then make sure to grab Resonance Keystone in your passive tree, which basically converts your Frenzy Charges into Power Charges. But Combat Frenzy can only generate charges if you freeze or shock the target.
So one option is to use Electrocute Gem on Tempest Flurry, but at the cost of losing a useful slot, and then you shock the monster with lightning damage to get the charges. But the problem is, you lose a lot of damage to the shock effect, or you have to rely on your Herald skill to shock.
Alternatively, if you don’t have enough cold damage in your build, you can hit the target with Tempest Flurry and then drop Tempest Bell. When you hit 1 or 2 times, that counts as the target being frozen, which generates Power Charges. You get 5% of your total damage as extra cold damage from the passive skill tree, and another 10% from Ascendancy points. The extra cold damage from your weapon and ring will give you Power Charges when you hit an enemy with Tempest Flurry.
A third option is to use Three Dragons Solid Mask, which turns your shocks into a freeze buildup. But once you have enough flat damage of each type in your gear, you should be getting charges when you hit an enemy.
Skill Sets
Now, how do we get these chain explosions? There are two ways to do this.
First, as long as you buy POE 2 Currency in advance, you can just wear this Polcirkeln Unique Ring, which will treat frozen monsters as frozen, which will cause your Herald of Ice to chain explosions on nearby enemies you kill.
The basic idea behind it is that you shock with Herald of Ice while also freezing with Herald of Thunder, which makes the chain explosions almost as effective as Unique Ring. Then you just need to focus on stacking as much cold damage as possible to crush your target. You can use these two setups if you lack cold damage in your build.
When you enter the endgame, you have to stack evasion and energy shield. So make sure you have Wind Dancer, Ghost Dance, and Grim Feast setups ready. If they nerf Grim Feast, you can put Meditate as your third or last Ascendancy point. It basically gives you double the energy shield.
Wind Dancer is like a low-spec version of Grace from POE 1. If you’re wondering how we get 50% evasion with Acrobatics, don’t doubt it, this is why. Without Acrobatics, this number would even go up to 80%.
So make sure to get as much evasion and energy shield as possible from your gear, not life. If you manage to get up to 4K energy shield, you can take Chaos Inoculation and completely forget about life and chaos resistance in your items.
If you choose Chaos Inoculation, then all ailment and stun thresholds will depend on your ES instead of life. But if you’re low on life, then you’ll want a Stone Charm for stun recovery, and a Thawing Charm for immunity to freezing. You can also get extra Charm slots by using Hunter’s Talisman, and this mitigation is very important.
For the main skill set of this build, we use Tempest Flurry to boost Charged Staff. While Charged Staff is considered a buff, the two scale separately. While Charged Staff does less damage than Tempest Flurry, what makes it so great is the combination of range, speed, and increased damage, combined with Herald, making it the centerpiece of this build.
Now, the part that further increases the damage is that when you throw the Tempest Bell on top of a boss or tanky rare monster, each of your damage types, Fire, Cold, and Lightning, will apply Shockwaves separately, dealing large amounts of elemental damage to the target. So be sure to aim for the boss’s location and hit the Bell with Tempest Flurry empowered by the Charged Staff.
Why Does It Achieve The Best Results With A Low Budget?
Since we are applying ailments directly to the target, we can throw all the damage gems into the Tempest Bell at the expense of not applying ailments. This is why we were able to take down the Final Boss with a very low budget gear build.
By stacking all 3 elemental damage types on gear starting with the weapon, we can achieve a higher damage potential than with a more expensive build. Here is a trick to save a lot of POE 2 currency, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get 4 socket gems for builds, you can use Lesser Jeweler’s Orb to corrupt Uncut Gems to get these socket gems.
This build only requires some investment in weapons besides some necessary POE 2 Exalted Orbs consumption, especially if your freeze damage is not enough to freeze a group of monsters in one attack, then this will help.
Gear
Now, let’s take a look at the gear used to upgrade this Tempest Flurry Invoker.
When you get to the map, you want to make sure you have a weapon or ring with separate cold damage and fire damage so that you can cool and ignite. You can also use Expert Crackling Quarterstaff, which has a lot of base lightning damage. And you don’t need physical damage, because only 80% of physical damage is converted to lightning.
For your suffix, if you have enough currency, you can look for additional critical chance, attack speed, and critical damage bonuses. Note that the crit multiplier is added to your base value. Since this sub-build relies heavily on crit, the chance of crit is even closer to 50% when you get Power Charges. Therefore, Soul Core of Ticaba is definitely the best choice for the slot.
For the rest of the gear, you want to get as much evasion and energy shield as possible, which is the basis of our basic defense. Then you want to look for resistance in gear, movement speed in boots, and flat elemental damage in rings and gloves. If you can afford Hand of Wisdom, this will be the best choice for gloves. Even if you don’t have attribute stacking, this item is now very powerful.
Finally, be sure to oil the amulet as mentioned before to get an extra Charm slot. If you spend more Chaos Orbs, you can also get a lot of evasion and energy shield here.
Passive Tree
Passive Tree here is simple, there is no Weapon Swap. Although you can use Blink or Shield Charge, it is up to you whether to add them. If you are struggling to keep all the auras on spirit, you can grab Herald to keep the nodes around.
For Ascendancy, we chose Blizzard for the first 2 Ascendancy points, and then Thunder. After completing all acts and preparing evasion and ES equipment, you will get Lead me through Grace points. Before that, you can use Enfolding Dawn.
For your final Ascendancy point, you can choose Rage. This is a huge damage buff for boss battles, but requires you to press a button to activate it.
That’s all for this Tempest Flurry Invoker build. The huge single target damage and group effect of this build are enough to help you easily advance to the endgame and destroy all monsters encountered. If you think this build is interesting, then don’t miss it!
